Percussionist Frank Colón

Frank Colón is featured in the new Manhattan Transfer CD titled, "Vibrate"! The album also features participation by John Pizzarelli, Will Lee, Yaron Gershovsky, Gil Goldstein, Lew Soloff, Steve Hass, Ramesh Misra, among others. It's a great CD, with music for all tastes!


Frankis featured in the Gato Barbieri DVD, “Live from The Latin Quarter”. Recorded in New York, this project includes songs made popular by Barbieri, such as “Last Tango in Paris”, “Europa”, “Mystica”, and “Viva Emiliano Zapata”.


Frank is featured on a new DVD with The Kremlin Chamber Orchestra from Russia! Recorded "Live" in Moscow in June, Frank was the principal soloist with this orchestra, performing on a 7-movement suite, commissioned specially for him by Maestro Misha Rachlevsky and composed by violinist Eskender Bekmanbetov entitled, "Adoracion al Ritmo".


Chhandayan World Percussion Ensemble is a Sold-Out Smash at Symphony Space Theater in NYC!

Led by friend and mentor, Pundit Samir Chatterjee (tablas/composer), this ensemble runs the gamut on percussion styles. Frank performed on Shekere, Bata, Bongos, Pandeiro, and electronic effects! The personnel of this group included Dan Weiss on trap drums and tar, Yousif Sheronick on frame drums, Nano Valerio on congas and cajon, Don Eaton on congas and batá and Sangamitra Ji on vocals!

Frank at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Rio de Janeiro!

Frank has just returned from an engagement at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, where he performed two "sold-out" shows with his own band! The shows' repertoire were composed of a selection of songs from both of his CDs ("Latin Wonder" and "Live at Vartanjazz"). Band members included Adam Klipple, Cecilia Tenconi, Dave Ambrosio, Alejandro (Alex) Garcia, and Marcus Wolf.

Just Released: CD by violinist/composer Michael Galasso,on which Frank participates! This project was produced by Manfred Eicher for ECM Records and was recorded in Oslo, Norway, with a special participation by guitarist Terje Rypdal! Frank has collaborated his talents on various film soundtrack recordings with Michael Galasso, as well as performing “live” at the last “Festivale Biennale” in Venice, Italy.

 


Frank is featured on Michael Wolff’s new CDs titled, “Intoxicate” and “Impure Thoughts”! The personnel in the band and on the records include John B. Williams on bass, Victor Jones on drums, Alex Foster on saxophones and Badal Roy on tablas. Look for Frank in an upcoming summer tour of the USA and Europe with the "Impure Thoughts" band!


Frank will again participate as "special invited guest" in this year's annual "Rio-Havana-New York" music festival in Moscow, to be held in December! Besides having a night to himself in last year's festival, he also performed with legendary singers Wanda Sa and Emilio Santiago from Rio de Janeiro, as well as with the Bocato Nonet from Sao Paulo. On a different night, he performed with Sexto Sentido and Novel Voz, from Havana.

Moscow has become fond of Frank, for in June, he also performed for an entire week with his own Latin-jazz band at the famous Blue Bird Jazz Club in Moscow! The Blue Bird Club is the oldest and most prestigious jazz venue in Moscow and the house was packed for all shows!
